Bouldering: Huayllay, Peru
Under Construction: Map to come...
Huayllay is the “cats tits”...you may say. For Bouldering we have found no better place in Peru if not Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. It is a rock forrest at 4300 meters that offers a variety types of climbing, sport and trad is possible but the bouldering is spectacular. In different areas of the forrest the rock varies from overhangs to blocks that resemble granite. The potential is almost limitless.
We found different bouldering areas all over the forrest. Two areas in particular stood out. South of Canchacucho about 5-10 minutes on dirt is a small community and some old pre spanish ruins. Just behind the ruins are soem quality problems but in the Valley just west of the ruins are a bunch of steep boulders. Also just up stream from the Thermal baths in the center of the forrest lie some big boulders with great highballs, awesome rock quality and some really hard problems.
Huayllay is located about 9 hours east of Lima, close to Cerro del Pasco. It is high and can be cold at night. Also, be careful some of the bolts on the routes are questionable.
The best source for information on how to get there and bolted routes is Topos Peru.
